Digital Printing

A technology that has been steadily improved upon since its invention in 1993, digital printing is now so effective that it can be used for a huge array of printing jobs and surfaces. The digital printing technique is incredibly efficient: it involves transferring an image from a computer directly onto the physical surface without need for blocks, negatives or plates.

Because the image being printed is generally held on the computer it can be easily manipulated or customized. The computer controlled transfer of ink is also very efficient, cutting down on waste and seepage and giving a much clearer image than other traditional printing methods.

Wider Variety Of Surfaces

Digital prints can be made on a large number of physical surfaces. Whilst paper is of course the most traditional, for larger jobs vinyl or canvas is recommended. Digital printing companies now offer water-proofing, colour-setting, and back-lit speciality printing techniques and are also capable of creating signs for electronic, interior, exterior and promotional use. Some companies even offer adhesive vinyl printing services which allow the client to create decals. Various finishes (matt, gloss and satin, for instance) are also available, as are reproduction prints from paintings and photographs.

Economical With Small Print Runs

Digital printing is ideal for small to medium sized print jobs, especially if high colour quality and detail are desired. Whilst digital printing may not be the ideal solution for producing books or newspapers (traditional methods are still preferable) it is the best method for calendars, brochures, invitations, guidebooks, signage, promotional material and even magazines with small print-runs. It is more economical on such small print runs than conventional printing methods, and so brings quality printing much more into the range of small businesses, organisations and even private individuals.
