Large format printing is a specialized sector of the printing industry which focuses on the production of large scale prints on a variety of physical mediums such as paper, vinyl, plastic, fabric and even foam. Such print jobs are usually required for billboards, advertisements, promotional material, public buildings, art galleries and museums, shopping centres and stores. Because of the sheer size involved in such projects the printing equipment needs to be sufficiently large to accommodate the physical medium it is printing on, and as such many small printing companies do not expand to offer large format printing services.
Interior And Exterior
The cost and time-frame of the printing job depends on the size, physical surface and detail demands of the image to be printed. Posters for indoor use are generally quite straightforward, with prices ranging from a couple of pounds for a small poster or promotional sign to much more for the larger designs. For exterior use it is necessary to invest in additional coatings and print on more versatile materials to ensure that the prints will remain in good condition regardless of the weather. This does raise the price, though bulk printing generally sees a discount given.
Correct Fastenings And Fittings
Although not all printing companies offer the service, if you are having a large format printing project undertaken it may also be worth asking the company to provide fittings or fastenings so that the finished products can easily be displayed. Eyelets, cords, glue tracks, frames, cables and bars are some of the ways in which large format print jobs can be displayed.
